Fête d’adieu

Friday was our last day in Biarritz and our certificate ceremony/farewell party. We have had such a wonderful time in Biarritz, getting to know the Basque country, and creating new friendships! For more photos, visit the SPI Biarritz 2015 facebook page!

Accrobranche (Thursday)

Thursday’s optional activity was “Accrobranche,” which really doesn't translate into English. So, we will let the pictures do the explaining. It was challenging, intense, and so much fun! For more photos, please visit our facebook page!

Summer 2: St. Jean de Luz

Today, Summer 2 had the opportunity to visit St. Jean de Luz, a beautiful city with a full history, quaint shops, and a gorgeous beach and tranquil bay. We all had a lovely time touring the city, including a visit to the church where Louis XIV was married, and enjoying free time to shop, go to the beach, and simply walk the streets. Here are some pictures from our visit!

Waiting for our train at the Biarritz station, Dan and others entertained us with their musical talents!

Chatting it up with a local artist! Way to go, girls, using your French!

Monday, the monthers visited the beautiful village of St-Jean-Pied-de-Port. It was awesome!...

Summer 2 got to visit the phare (lighthouse) with its beautiful views. You might have the chance to see some of the student-taken photos from the top of the lighthouse if you check the Facebook page. :) Here are a few photos from the excursion.

Visit to the Atelier d'artistes de la Milady in Biarritz (Monthers)

The Canicule strikes again! It was a pretty hot day today, but that didn't impede the monthers from taking a tour of the Biarritz local artists commune in the Milady neighborhood! This is a unique place: a greenhouse, turned into artist studios. We were melting, yes, but we loved seeing the many varying styles of artists' work!

Emma Roman---this one is for you. :)

They were such troopers in the heat! :)

Then, of course, the Milady beach is very nice, so some of us couldn't resist a quick visit!

Summer 2 takes La Rhune & Monthers hang out in Bayonne

It was a busy day for all of us here in Biarritz!

Summer 2 took a trip to La Rhune, the mountain that lies on the border of France and Spain where students ride the quaint little wooden train up and maybe hike (or run) back down the mountain. More photos from that excursion are on our Facebook page! :)

The monthers took a little trip back to Bayonne, the lovely nearby town that some of us like to refer to as "the Amsterdam of France" for its beautiful medieval streets and architecture along the Nive and Adour rivers. Our purpose today was to simply enjoy the city. Many students spent their time buying souvenirs and taking advantage of les soldes (sales!) in the myriad little shops around the center of town. Others traveled a little further to experience the chocolate museum! It was an intriguing visit and most of us ate more chocolate today than we have in the entire 2 and a half weeks we have been in France! It was wonderful! On est vraiment gourmand! Here are a few pictures...

...reminds me of that iconic scene from I Love Lucy!

Our guide was great!

So much chocolate to try!
